Masthead ideas

I have used Dafont.com to brainstorm ideas on which of what my masthead should look like, so that I can get some audience feedback from it. I have chosen the name 'capture' as it links to the theme of cinema and photography, I also chose it because out of the ideas I gave to my audience, they suggested that 'capture' was the best suited for my audience/genre/masthead name.

Movie magazine names?

I am starting to think more into my print products, such as my movie magazine and need to think of a good name for my institution. I am trying to think of different names that would appeal to my audience, and that would suit starring a coming of age/Indie film. By this I thought of synonyms for 'entertainment' or to attract my intended audience, which would be teens or young adults.

So far I have thought of names such as:
  • INTEREST
  • PICTUREHOUSE
  • FEATURE
  • CINEMATIC
  • INDIE FILM
  • TEEN FILM
  • CAPTURE
As i prefer the name 'Picture house' I have attempted to find some fonts that could be seen as appropriate for a movie magazine to visualise my product. So far I have found these different fonts:

The definition of the word 'picture house' is an old fashioned term for cinema, meaning that there is an old fashioned twist to what is now seen as a modern term for teenage cinema. Because of this definition, most of the fonts I have found have a slight old fashioned touch to them, as well as having a type writer font as well as this is also something old fashioned but is seen as more common in modern coming of age films. As if the audience are finding retro cool again.

Audience Feedback on my idea:

Film magazine picture ideas

I have been thinking about my photos I will need to take for my film magazine front cover, but by this I need to think about various different features:

  • The direct mode of address
  • The type of shot
  • How the character should be portrayed in the photos
  • The background of the photo - Will it be white? black? a setting?
  • What will the models/characters be wearing.

I have looked at various different film magazines that I could take inspiration purely for the photos that have been taken. The left hand side I thought about Tessa and the lighthearted atmosphere about the whole photo. The middle image I thought about both characters, the female would represent Tessa and the Male would represent Luna, with regards to their facial expressions and the connotations I see when looking at the image. Finally the right photo I thought about Luna, as I feel throughout her character you get a feeling of pressure through her stare and how she has no emotion, I think she links to this image, as all of her characteristics are in her face and what expressions she portrays instead of her clothing and other factors.
I think I will try to recreate some of these images to see if they would suit my magazine front covers.

Media trailer first draft.

This is the first trailer draft that I have created. I can now look at the improvements I need to make as well as asking for audience feedback on my trailer to see what my target audience think of the product and if they have any ideas on what they would change, so that I can make these improvements.

My own ideas on improvements:

  • Some of the scenes will need more variety of different shots
  • could experiment with inter titles
  • the inter title with 'Jamie' is too staged and not as natural.
  • The audio is not as suitable for the trailer as I would of liked.

Here is the audience feedback I was given by 3 targeted audience members:
