Different film magazines

I have used Photosnack to create a slideshow of different film magazines in which I can look at. Even though not all of them are of the genre I am doing, I think it is a good idea to find features that contrast into mine. This helps me to find conventions to avoid or potentially include when creating my film magazine front cover for my chosen film. The first cover is from American Cinematographer, which is an American publishing company, I felt this front cover fits with the indie genre in which I will be doing, which is a good idea to look at. The front cover is basic, similar to the Indie genre as well as including the main articles needed. It does not try to bombard you with extra features, it tells you exactly what you want to know.
The second cover is from

Coming of age - Research tips

From looking on: http://www.missliterati.com/blog/5-tips-to-writing-a-coming-of-age-story I have found some interesting tips in which will help me develop my narrative further, to get a good idea on what I want my narrative to be. On this website it asks 5 questions in which coming of age films fit into:

  • What events in your life happened that made you grow up?

  • What were you like when you were a child? What changes did you have when you were a young adult?

  • How did your outlook on life change during this transition?

  • Who inspired you as a child? Did that change when you were an adult?

  • What lessons, morals, and beliefs did you learn?
These are all questions in which I can analyse separately in order to come up with a narrative that will fit into the 'coming of age' genre.

Coming of age montage

I have brainstormed various different Coming of age films, so that I can link back to each film when relevant within my planning and research. Each of these I will consider taking inspiration from for my final trailer production.

Audience Profiling

Who is my audience?

I would like my overall audience to be aged between 16 and 25 as this is the perfect age for the certain issues to occur. The dominating gender that would watch this is males as stereotypically, it takes males longer to know what they want to do with their lives. Females are also allowed to watch the film as they will find the issues appropriate to their lives, however  With regards to the class of the audience, I would suggest C2DE as they are either unemployed, or in education as the audience will be of a young age. However there is a possibility for a secondary audience, this would be of an older age, preferably 30-40 as this would be aimed at the audience's parents. This is because the parents could possibly want a point of view of someone the same age to see if they all have the same feelings towards the certain issues. This also could be a film that my primary audience want to show the secondary audience to express their feelings.

The psycho-graphics of this film would consist of the audience being 'explorers' as the audience would want to connect with the characters who would also want to take risks in their lives. This is because of the rebellious behaviour which they connect with the characters to. The second psycho-graphic that I would consider is reformers, this is where they want social change. This links very well with the ideas of the narrative I would like to use. This is because some people cannot get their views across and this film would be the perfect opportunity to do so. Finally I would find the audience more curious of certain characters because their struggling characteristics. This is because there is a personal identity between the audience and the characters.

The audience profile will consist of them being a rebellious audience that do not spend all the time they should be in their education. My intended audience are the type of people that enjoy spending time in the park with their friends drinking. They can often be mistaken for 'chavs' or 'hippies' but they are seen as the 'Indie' kids. They enjoy the social situations instead of school social situations because this is where they are truly seen as themselves and can express who they really are.

With consuming media products, my intended audience are the class of people who would watch comedy or horror genres. They like to binge off 'Netflix' as this is a unique medium platform which has an element of exclusivity. My audience like to feel special and unique, hence why the Indie genred film is suitable for my audience. They are also the type of people who do not like mainstream social media such as Twitter and Facebook but like places that they can express their feelings such as Instagram or Tumblr..

Kids In Love (2016)

Kids In love - 2016

Jack is a gap-year student in London who isn’t convinced that he wants the life that has been mapped out for him. He meets a young woman, who introduces him to the bohemian side of the city. - Synopsis sourced from Wikipedia.
Kids in love is a coming of age/indie film in which is the most up to date film I could review. This film is cleverly filmed to pull the heartstrings of the audience, being teenagers of both genders. Aged between 16-20 as it raises issues in which could only be permitted by this age range. It has a niche audience but includes issues which is very clearly addressed that the audience are badly effected by. One of the reasons I like this film so much in terms of the plot is that this is a film which is to show to the teenagers' parents exactly what passes through their head and how they feel about it, yet the film is aimed at teenagers. Which creates more aggression as there is still not a film that can express to an older generation what it is like for teenagers to feel in modern society.

Who stars in the film?

  • Will Poulter as Jack - Who stars in many films that are aimed at people a similar age. Is an actor known for his unique facial features.
  • Alma Jodorowsky as Evelyn - An actress who is not known in the film industry in the UK but from the institutions decision was perfect for the part.
  • Sebastian de Souza as Milo - This actor has been stared in various different films and TV shows which address similar issues and issues that adolescents tackle, therefore people who watch these will still be able to connect with this character.
  • Cara Delevingne as Viola - Delevingne is an upcoming actress which is widely known by adolescents as a model, role model and well known actress. For this film she is not a big character but from the poster she is one of the most visual, showing she is a USP (Unique Selling Point) of the film.

The trailer is 1 minute 45 seconds, which is a reasonable trailer time. It includes various amounts of shots to keep it engaging for the audience. It also tries to explain the narrative in order.

Good trailer research

I used the source 'Media Mag' which is a specific magazine that gives useful information for students studying from AS-Degree level. This has a very useful article on what makes a good movie trailer which I have taken notes from and have created a mindmap in my notebook that I can source back to when making decisions in the continuation of my work.

Theorists Research into trailers/film

I have done some research into different media theorists that specifically talk about film theories. I have created an Emaze to explain some of the different theories and who they are by. Powered by emaze
